Nick Nurse can’t stop coming back to his home state of Iowa —
It’s not hard to get on a plane and play golf and it’s not hard to get on a plane and go watch basketball. I’m very fortunate to be able to do all this stuff
Less than a month after leading the Toronto Raptors to a title in his first year as an NBA coach — the former UNI star found himself on the the links in Cedar Rapids — teeing it up at the Zach Johnson Foundation classic —
You get put in the position, and I’ve been put in the position too now, I’ve won an NBA title. Zach’s obviously great. Your job is to be a steward and give back to the community.
I guess that’s what Iowans do. They come back and support their own. I exchanged some texts with Nick probably a couple of weeks ago when he was thinking about it and then commited. Evidently it didn’t take much.
Nurse — who’s now in the middle of the NBA summer league — has been busy in Vegas — and has been on the move non-stop since winning the title — a whirlwind tour for the Carroll, Iowa native —
It”s been exactly that. I keep saying get me back to the pressure of the NBA Finals. It’s less crazy than the last couple of weeks have been, but it’s been really enjoyable obviously.
and for the Nurse — who spent the day on the links — signing autographs — and taking pictures with his hometown fans — there’s no where else he’d rather be.
Deep roots, I’ve got a lot of family here. Very very proud to be from Iowa, no doubt about it.
