Temperatures as of 10:20 AM are pushing 90 degrees with heat indices near 100 for much of the region (Washington is anomalous).
Another dangerously hot and humid day is expected on this Sunday. Highs will work their way up to the lower to middle 90’s with very humid air to make matters worse. Partly cloudy to partly sunny skies will allow for these temperatures to heat up more than yesterday.
Heat indices will generally range between 100 and 105 degrees. Heat advisories are in place for all of eastern Iowa through late this evening. Stay hydrated and find a way to stay cool!
Threat tracker will be in the yellow today, not just because of the heat but also for a chance of storms later this evening into tonight.
Some storms could be strong to severe with damaging wind gusts and large hail. There will be a low tornado threat. Otherwise, the best chance for storms will arrive this evening and tonight. Timing looks to be from 6 PM to midnight.
Otherwise, lows remain in the low 70’s with the humidity continuing.
Storms will stay mainly north for Monday with slightly cooler highs in the middle 80’s north to lower 90’s south. Humidity continues.
The workweek will be filled with scattered rain chances and generally cooling temperatures.
