Lamps fixed after vandalism at Angels Park; security system to be put in next

Original story (June 11): Icon Donuts & Sweetery raising money after vandalism at Angels Park

CEDAR VALLEY, Iowa (KWWL) – Icon Donuts & Sweetery posted to Facebook, saying they’re raising money for Angels Park Memorial Island after it was vandalized last week.

They say this week they are offering Angel Icon treats, and all the money raised will help with repairs at Angels Park. You can also just make a private donation to the park at the First Security Bank in Evansdale or Community Foundation in Waterloo in care of Angels Memorial Park.

EVANSDALE, Iowa (KWWL) – Police are investigating an act of vandalism at the Angels Park Memorial Island in Evansdale.

The park was built in honor of local victims of violent crimes in the area.

Two lamps were damaged at the park, one completely ripped from its mount. The lamps cost around $400 a piece.

Tom Nichols, the father of one of the victims honored at the park, calls the act “unthinkable.”

“Why would somebody do that? Why do we live in a society where somebody would think of doing that?” said Nichols.

His daughter was killed by an ex-boyfriend in 2012. Nichols said it’s possible the lamps could be covered by the city’s insurance but it’s not likely.

Private donations for the park can be made to the First Security Bank in care of Angels Park or to the Community Fund for Memorial Park.

You can learn more by going to their facebook page.
