Group discusses the health of the Mississippi River

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) – Several lawmakers and city leaders met in Dubuque Wednesday to discuss the health of the Mississippi River.

The Mississippi River Caucus met at the National Mississippi River Museum to talk about topics such as water quality, flooding, and ask questions as to how they can improve the entire river.

Jeff Mauk, the Executive Director of the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators, said it’s important to get everyone together in one room.

“Really some of the answers, really can’t just be answered with people off working on their own. You need to collaborate, you need these different levels of government because some of these issues are larger than just one agency can handle on their own or just one city,” said Mauk.

The group hopes to find natural solutions that could help flooding and water quality simultaneously.
