One person injured in Dubuque shooting

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) — One person is recovering after being shot in Dubuque.

Police tell us 35-year-old Ricardo Thomas was shot last night along the 2400 block of White St. He was taken to MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center where he underwent surgery.

After reviewing traffic cameras, a car was located along Pine St. 26-year-old Cameron Hatcher was arrested and charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Trafficking in Stolen Weapons.

Jeremy Jensen, Assistant Chief of the Dubuque Police Department, said that his department does not take these cases lightly.

“It’s concerning when it happens in your neighborhood. It’s concerning when it happens in your city or in your town,” said Chief Jensen. “I mean, it’s a scary prospect. Again, because you don’t know when bullets start flying where do they go.”

Authorities tell us they saw a person putting something in a trash can along the 2100 block of Washington St. on traffic camera footage. That person was then seen entering a residence along Washington St. A search warrant was executed, and a person of interest is being interviewed. No charges have been filed.
