WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) – Two of the three slides closed on Sunday for waterline repairs at Lost Island Water Park in Waterloo reopened early Monday afternoon after crews fixed their drainage issues.
The last ride, Calypso Cascade, remains closed at least until Friday, reminding staff and guests that harsh winter weather is still affecting the park.
“A large amount of moisture, coupled with very cold temperatures, wreaked havoc on our underground plumbing,” Park Manager Eric Bertch said. “We were basically running from one emergency to the next.”
The park discounted tickets $6.75 on Monday, from $29.75 down to $23, for not being at full strength.
“We’re trying to offer people a discount to compensate for that,” Bertch said.
Guests at the park on Monday had fun on other rides and were sympathetic to the staff as they worked on their attraction.
“They already have two of them up, so, I mean, they’re working hard,” Eli Sallis said.
“You can tell they’re trying their hardest to make everyone happy, so, they’re going to work their butts off to get that slide working again,” Gary Winthrope said.
Bertch hopes they will have all slides pumping this weekend but in the meantime, he’s happy his guests know he hates these closures as much as they do.
“It’s nice to see that people do understand the position that we’re in.”
