CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) — A recently obtained criminal complaint outlines the shocking details of the May 18th shooting that left two 18-year-olds dead and two 19-year-olds injured.

The suspect in this double homicide is 26-year-old Andre Richardson who made a first appearance at the Linn County Courthouse earlier today.

According to the complaint, officers were called to the Iowa Smoke Shop at 70 Kirkwood Ct. SW, where they found four people shot inside a black Rendezvous in the parking lot.

18-year-old Matrell Johnson and 18-year-old Royal Abrams were both shot and killed in the backseat of the car. The driver, 19-year-old Kayla Panos-Blackcloud, and front seat passenger, 19-year-old Booker McKinney, was also shot and suffered life-threatening injuries.

At this time, both remain hospitalized for their injuries.

Security video showed Richardson arriving in the front seat of a vehicle driven by Alexandra Smith, with passengers Deshawn Hull Jr., Kenyauta Keith, and Colby Shannon.

The vehicle driven by Smith had arrived minutes before the black Rendezvous, which parked next to Smith’s vehicle, according to documents.

Security video allegedly shows Richardson get out of the Smith vehicle and firing a series of shots with a .45 handgun at close range, shooting all of the occupants in the Rendezvous. Documents detail how Richardson’s gun jammed several times, and security video shows him clearing the weapon several times as he continued to fire upon the victims.

Richardson then got back in the Smith vehicle which fled the scene.

Richardson has previously been convicted of a felony offense.

Richardson is now facing multiple felony charges in the case, which include:

  • Two counts of 1st-degree-murder
