I-380 speed cameras in Cedar Rapids set to begin ticketing again July 1

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) – The Cedar Rapids City Council has given the final approval to begin speed ticketing from traffic cameras on I-380’s S-curve again, set to begin July 1.

The council approved the measure Tuesday night.  Beginning June 1, the cameras will begin issuing only warnings to speeders, but citations will begin July 1.  Court cases initially halted the issuing of tickets from the cameras in 2017.

Anyone driving more than 11 mph over the speed limit will be ticketed.  The speed limit is 55 mph.

As KWWL has reported in the past, Cedar Rapids Police say they will use the funds generated by the tickets to hire ten police officers.
