WATERLOO, Ia (KWWL) — There will be more room for newborns at a Waterloo hospital.
UnityPoint Allen hospital held an event today to celebrate donors and the success of their capital campaign, the largest campaign in its nearly 100-year history, which started in the fall of 2016. One of the projects the money goes toward is adding on to the birthing center.
Like the families who welcome their newborns there, UnityPoint Allen hospital’s birthing center is expanding.
The ‘For Allen For You’ capital campaign worked to address three initiatives, one being the expansion of the birthing center.
There are currently 15 birthing rooms, and three more are under construction. the campaign involved everyone in the community, from businesses to parents.
“We wanted to be a part of this campaign because the Allen hospital is important for our community, for my family, Jude was born here and has had some health challenges but with UnityPoint Allen Hospital, he’s come a long way.” Sarah Corkery, a campaign participant, said.
Jude had more challenges than one could imagine.
“When Jude was a little baby, he had something called nystagmus, he also has epilepsy, and low vision but the Allen hospital was there for us from the very beginning,” Corkery said.
Pam Delagardelle, CEO of UnityPoint Allen, was emotional when she heard the staggering amount of donations.
“Really excited about the money we raised for our mother-baby unit. we’ve been able to increase our labor and delivery suites to 18 NICU beds for our most vulnerable patients in the cedar valley,” Delagardelle said
