WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) – Alternatives Pregnancy Center raised awareness about what they provide in the community, while raising important funds to support that work, at their annual fundraiser on April 11.
Over 500 people attended “A Night with the Stars” at Cedar Valley Church. Local high school students dressed up as movie stars, including Mary Poppins, Judy Garland, and even Elvis was there!
“There were lots of laughs and poignant moments, especially when the community rallied behind our clients of the year,” said Megan Yturriaga, Executive Director of Alternatives Pregnancy Center. “This couple has done a great job in the parenting classes, and the Cedar Valley’s generosity was on full display when businesses and other non-profits donated gift certificates, a shopping spree and a makeover to
this well-deserving couple. They even received a car!”
Scott Hagan, president of North Central University and Becky Hagan, of Sierra Pregnancy and Health, were the keynote speakers for the event. And the staff of the center were on hand, as well.
“What I liked best about the evening was all of the love and support for our clients and the work we do,” said Carolina Arce, who works in Community Relations with APC.
Another big part of the night was the center’s celebration of being debt-free with a ceremonial burning of the mortgage.
