GREENSBORO, North Carolina. (KWWL) – In just over 24 hours the Iowa women are set to play the most important game in the last quarter century of the Hawkeye program, and what they’re doing up front is going to be a major factor on Monday night.
The Hawkeyes looked solid in that regard on Saturday with Megan Gustafson and Hannah Stewart scoring 43 of Iowa’s 79 points against N-C State.
But now they’ll have to match up against the best defensive post tandem in the country which includes 6-foot-7 Baylor center Kalani Brown.
“These are two extraordinary bigs. We went against two bigs before during the year, maybe not this big, I mean 6’7″, 6’5″ inside is impressive. I’m just thankful we have two bigs that are pretty good as well,” said Iowa Head Coach Lisa Bluder.
“We’ve been facing good bigs all year long, especially in the Big Ten and I think that’s prepared us alone, but at the same time we’ve just got to play to our strengths and really focus on their tendencies and what they do and try to take those away, ” said Iowa Senior Forward Megan Gustafson.
The Hawkeyes will take on the Baylor Lady Bears on Monday.
