UPDATE: Victim identified in Iowa City car fire

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) — Officials with the Iowa City Police and Fire Departments responded to the parking lot of 1213 Gilbert Court, for a report, by a witness, of a vehicle that was on fire.

According to firefighters, after they extinguished the fire, they found a body inside the vehicle.

Iowa City police are investigating the incident to determine the circumstances, including whether a crime occurred.

UPDATE (Wednesday, 3/20): Iowa City Police say the victim whose body was found inside a burned car on Monday has been identified as 72-year-old Donald Schrader of Iowa City. Police say no suspicious circumstances or crimes are being considered in the case, and that the fire appears to “have originated in the passenger compartment area” of the car. Autopsy results are still pending.
