MINNEAPOLIS (KWWL) — Alex Marinelli needed to do something big. That’s exactly what the Iowa 165-pounder did, using a 6-point move in the second period to take out two-time NCAA champ Vincenzo Joseph of Penn State to win a Big Ten championship. The win gave the sophomore his first title as he improved to 23-0 on the season.
Spencer Lee fell 5-4 in sudden victory to Northwestern’s Sebastian Rivera in Iowa’s only other title match on Saturday.
Along with Marinelli and Lee, six other Hawkeyes reached the podium and automatically qualified for the NCAA tournament. Iowa finished third in the team standings behind Ohio State and champion Penn State.
