April 6: Grout Museum District fundraiser to feature KWWL’s Abby Turpin

WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) – Did you know our main co-anchor of KWWL News at 5, 6 and 10 has a musical background?  From national tours to doing shows on cruise ships, she even sang in shows for the Walt Disney Company in Japan and at Dollywood, Dolly Parton’s theme park.

Now, KWWL is proud to announce that Abby and her husband, Travis, are lending their talents for a fundraiser for the Friends of the Grout Historic Houses in Waterloo.  All funds raised benefit the Snowden House & Rensselaer Russell House Museum.

“Being a part of the arts community is incredibly important to Travis and me,” said Abby.  “We actually met doing a show together years ago in Nashville.  We look forward to doing this show to become more immersed in the music and arts community in the Cedar Valley.”

Travis Turpin is a professional entertainer, mainly headlining his own show on cruise ships around the world.  Travis has performed in the Broadway National Tour of The Buddy Holly Story, and also played opposite legend Larry Gatlin in the Broadway National Tour of The Civil War.  Learn more on Travis’s website by clicking here.

Tickets are $25 and a cash bar will be available.  Abby and Travis will sing a variety of genres of music together and separately, and will explain their musical backgrounds, how they met in the show in Nashville and their journey to ending up in Waterloo.  Since Abby’s career in broadcasting began, they have lived in five different states!

“It really will be a fun, casual night, with us telling our story and singing some songs.  We hope people will come out to support the Grout Museum District and all they offer to the Cedar Valley community,” said Abby.

The show will be held on the second floor of the Snowden House at 306 Washington St. in Waterloo.  Doors open at 6 p.m. on April 6, and the show begins at 7 p.m.
