UPDATE: Name of person killed in Cedar Rapids crash released

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) — An 18-year-old is dead Monday morning after police say she lost control of her car and slid into oncoming traffic.

Susan Geels, 54, of Cedar Rapids, was traveling eastbound on Blairs Ferry Road, when she was struck by an 18-year-old female who was driving westbound. According to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the female driver lost control on the icy road and slid into oncoming traffic, striking Geels head on. The female driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Geels was taken to Mercy Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The name of the female driver is being withheld at this time, pending notification of family.

The incident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.


UPDATE: The name of the person killed in a crash on Blairs Ferry Road Monday morning has been released.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says Katelyn Miranda, of Washington, died when she lost control of her car and slid into oncoming traffic.

The incident is still under investigation.
