August 3: Field of Dreams to host first-ever Iron Horse Classic Home Run Derby for the MDA

DYERSVILLE, Iowa ( KWWL) – KWWL is proud to get the word out about any events that benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Iowa.  And a first-ever event is coming to the Field of Dreams in Dyersville.

The Iron Horse Classic Home Run Derby will take place on August 3.

“We are so excited for this first-time event. Many MDA families in Dubuque county are
faced with the daily challenges brought on by the effects of diseases like muscular dystrophy,
ALS, and spinal muscular atrophy. Everyday freedoms like walking, talking and even breathing
can be taken away by these muscle-debilitating diseases,” said Development Coordinator, Molly
Zmudka.

It’s just $35 to enter the contest and to have the memorable experience of playing on the Field of Dreams.  It also includes an event t-shirt and coaching.  Prizes will be awarded for the top of each division: Ages 9-13, Ages 14-18, Adults 18+, and Adaptive Hitting (for participants with unique needs).

Funds raised that day go toward making the MDA Summer Camp at Camp Courageous possible, and also toward groundbreaking research, life-enhancing programs, and care at the MDA Care Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The Iron Horse Classic begins at 10 a.m. on August 3.  Don’t want to play ball?  Don’t worry.  Volunteer (email Molly at mzmudka@mdausa.org) or be a spectator to cheer on your favorite participant.  There will also be music, games and food available.

Participants can register by clicking here.
