UPDATE: One person dead after morning fire in Evansdale

EVANSDALE, Iowa – The Evansdale Fire Department confirms 30-year-old Albert Schmitt died in this morning’s fire.

Firefighters found Schmitt unconscious near the living room area. He was taken to a nearby hospital, but sadly died.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.


Evansdale, Iowa (KWWL) – Roughly a dozen firefighters were on scene of a house fire overnight.

Crews were called to the 400 block of Morrell Avenue in Evansdale around 3:30 a.m.

Evansdale Fire Chief Ryan Phillips confirms the fire started in the living room area; smoke and fire appeared to be in the back of the home. Firefighters also say part of the roof caved in.

Crews from Evansdale, Raymond and Gilbertville assisted in putting the fire out.

According to Phillips, one person was taken to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
