CARMEL, Indiana (KWWL) – A 20-year-old who inspired a world of sports fans has reportedly died.
According to Purdue SB Nation site Hammer and Rails, Tyler Trent has died. The Purdue football fan who helped rally the team to a landmark win over then-No. 2 Ohio State in October was battling terminal cancer.
Two weeks after Purdue’s victory over the Buckeyes, the Boilermakers hosted Iowa with Trent in attendance. He said over social media that he looked forward to taking part in the famous “Iowa Wave” with the Hawkeyes in town.
Hammer and Rails says Trent was able to see Purdue in action during the Music City Bowl in Nashville last Friday. A book on Trent’s legacy will be released in March, with the proceeds being donated to cancer research and families battling cancer.
