NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa (KWWL) – Fire crews were able to extinguish flames within a house in North Liberty on Monday, but the fire resulted in the death of a pet inside the home.
The North Liberty Fire Department were at the scene of the fire in the 90 block of Golfview Court around 3:54 p.m. after an initial call came in about seven minutes earlier. The fire was under control by 4:05 p.m., according to crews, but a pet rescued from the home could not be revived. No people were injured in the fire, and authorities say no one was home when the fire first sparked. The homeowner is being assisted by the Red Cross tonight, while the cause remains under investigation. Crews add that there were working smoke detectors inside the house.
The North Liberty Fire Department was assisted by the North Liberty Police Department, Solon Fire Department, Coralville Fire Department, JCAS, MidAmerican Energy and JCEC at the scene on Monday.
