Firefighters battle structure fire in Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) – Fire crews in Iowa City were able to extinguish a fire in the 2500 block of Sylvan Glen Court within five minutes of arriving at the scene on Monday evening.

The flames were contained to a kitchen area within a two-story, four-plex residential building shortly after 6 p.m., according to authorities. No one was hurt in the fire, and a cat and dog were safely removed from the unit. Three people are displaced from their homes tonight, while crews say a loss estimate is not yet available.

The Iowa City Fire Department worked alongside the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center and Mid-American Energy at the scene. Crews are still investigating the fire’s origin.
