DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa (KWWL) – Police in Dubuque say two credit/debit card skimmers appear to have recently been placed on Dubuque-area drive-up ATMs.
Officers say the initial skimmer device was found on an employee who was inspecting the machine at the Dupaco Community Credit Union’s Key West branch location, which is located in the 2200 block of Flint Hill Drive. Both Dubuque Police and Dupaco’s Fraud Prevention Team worked to investigate the discovery, and determined that the skimmer was most likely placed on the machine on Saturday (December 15) around 2:15 p.m.
As surveillance video was analyzed on Monday, police also believe a second skimmer was placed on an ATM at the Dupaco branch in the 3200 block of Hillcrest Road in Dubuque. The video apparently showed a suspect placing what is believed to a skimming device on the machine around 2 p.m. on Saturday, and then removing it shortly before 5 p.m. the same day.
Officers also say Dupaco’s Fraud Prevention Team thinks that the suspect possibly also placed skimmers on the two locations on Sunday, December 9.
