IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) – The longtime voice of the Iowa Hawkeyes will be silent for the next two UI Men’s Basketball games, after comments were broadcast out during what should have been a commercial break during the team’s Tuesday game.
Gary Dolphin has been suspended for two games, according to Learfield Sports, which is the exclusive multimedia rights holder for the University of Iowa Athletics.
Dolphin’s comments came during Iowa’s eventual 69-68 victory over Pittsburgh.
According to the Associated Press, Dolphin did not swear or use inappropriate language but did criticize Hawkeyes guard Maishe Dailey for dribbling with his head down into a double team.
The Associated Press also notes Iowa athletic director Gary Barta says the suspension also comes after “some ongoing tensions that have built up over the past couple of years.”
Dolphin, who has called Hawkeyes games for more than 20 years, will be suspended for a Friday contest at home against No. 22 Wisconsin and next Monday’s game at No. 9 Michigan State.
