CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KWWL) – Escape rooms are gaining in popularity across the country, and now you can find another one right here in the Cedar Valley.
Escapology in Cedar Falls opened on Oct. 26.
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?
It’s a game where you need a little bit of everything.
Problem solving, strategy, teamwork and reasoning.
Groups of 2-6 players have exactly 60 minutes to solve clues and puzzles that will free them from a small game room.
But here’s the catch, the clock starts right when you enter the room.
“When people walk in that room they really feel like this is actually happening right now, so just the details are the biggest challenge for us because we wanted to make sure we provided the best customer experience possible,” Derek Hamil, one of the co-owners said.
Since Escapology opened, a few groups have successfully solved the puzzles and escaped.
The fastest time so far? Around 40 minutes.
At Escapology, each escape room has a different theme and difficulty level.
There’s a saloon, a mad scientist’s lab and a hacker’s apartment.
No cell phones are allowed.
If you get stuck, there is a game master available to give you hints.
The owners say they are passionate about this project. They’ve been working on it since March.
“I think it’s a perfect mixture of strategy and fun. I think any time you can get together whether it’s with friends, co-workers, set your cell phone down, and just work together as a team, you’re going to have a good time,” Hamil said.
