Celebration Of Life honors Iowa boy killed in lawn mower accident

It’s been more than 10 days since 12-year-old Carson McGrane was killed in a lawn mower accident.

The 7th grader was a wrestler and football player in the Wapsie Valley School District.

KWWL attended Carson’s Celebration of Life, which was Wednesday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. We also stopped by today’s Sumner-Fredericksburg versus Wapsie Valley football game to see how the community is rallying behind Carson.

At the Celebration Of Life, people sang his favorite song and shared memories. They also ended the night with a lantern release.

Well-known athlete and wrestling coach Dan Gable spoke at Carson’s Celebration Of Life. He said, “We must live like Carson, and we must think like him too.”

Today, the Sumner Fredericksburg football team presented a poster to the Wapsie Valley team, honoring Carson. They also raised around $700 for the Carson McGrane Scholarship Fund.

The Wapsie Valley football teams now have the initials, CM, on their helmets. They also chant, “Live like Carson,” in honor of the former teammate.

Many other surrounding sports teams have voiced their support for Carson, showing how one person has forever changed this Iowa community.
