13th annual “Salute to Women” celebration to be held October 16

Update (11/6/18):

Cedar Falls Business and Professional Women has reported to KWWL that over $5,000 was raised for scholarships for non-traditional women students at the Salute to Women event on October 16.  They say that’s the most they have ever raised at the annual event.

Cedar Falls Business and Professional Women are preparing to host their annual event to bring community leaders, business owners and working women together to celebrate their contributions in our community.

You are invited to enjoy an evening with friends and colleagues in the Cedar Valley, listen to an important message from the keynote speaker, shop with vendors, and make a difference in a woman’s educational journey, as proceeds go towards their scholarship fund.

A highlight of the evening is the presentation of the Cedar Valley Woman of the Year award.  This goes to a woman who has made positive contributions in the Cedar Valley.  Nominations are being accepted until September 30.

Sponsors are also being sought.  Current sponsors are CUNA Mutual Group, First National Bank, University of Iowa Community Credit Union, Community Bank & Trust, Kneeland Advisors, Doris Kelley and University of Northern Iowa.

KWWL’s Abby Turpin will emcee the event and this year’s keynote speaker is Joan Becker.  The theme for her speech is “Let’s take Tragedy to Transformation.”

Becker and her husband of 35 years, David Becker, have three sons, Brad, Scott, and Mark. Joan is a passionate advocate for individuals who have mental illness, as her son Mark had Paranoid Schizophrenia.  She hopes to help other families, caregivers, and professionals understand how they can make a difference in improving our mental health system.

Salute to Women is held at the Diamond Event Center in Cedar Falls.  Shopping and networking begins at 4:30 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door.  Please RSVP to LuAnn at 319-483-4826 or by emailing:
