30 hogs die following semi-trailer accident near Waucoma

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident of a semi-trailer pulling a load of hogs that tipped over in a ditch.

It happened Monday around 1:00 p.m. in the ditch 1/10 mi. north of 250th Street on U Ave. 4 mi. southeast of Waucoma.

Sheriff’s Deputy said that Levi J. Byler, 28, of Stewartville Minnesota, was driving a Blue 2015 Kenworth semi-tractor and pulling a 2012 livestrock trailer southbound on U Ave. when he became distracted and lost control, going into the west ditch, and rolling the semi and trailer on its side.

The semi and trailer, owned by Livestock Express Inc., out of Waucoma, sustained approximately $20,000 damage and over 30 hogs were killed in the accident. No injuries were reported. Byler was cited for failure to maintain control.
