Solon falls to Heelan in extra innings in 3A state quarterfinals

Solon rallied late, but the Spartans fell just short, dropping a 3-2 eight inning heart breaker against sixth ranked Sioux City Heelan.

The number five Spartans fell behind right away as Heelan plated a pair of first inning runs, capped by Nick Gottilla’s RBI base hit in to centerfield for a 2-0 lead.

That held up until the sixth inning when the Solon offense finally put something together. Tyler Linderbaum drove in Luke Ira on a double in to the right centerfield gap. Adam Bock followed it up with a hard shot that was mishandled at first allowing Linderbaum to score the tying run.

With two on in the bottom of the eighth, however, Colin Kasperbauer knocked a base hit in to right scoring a run from second as the Crusaders walked off with the win.

Solon ends the season at 32-11.
