Brandon Libby is KWWL’s weekend evening meteorologist and noon meteorologist on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
He was born in Woodland Hills, California and lived in Southern California until he was 11. Believe it or not, this is where he gained his love for weather. California is usually known for abundant sunshine and warm temperatures but on a rare occasion a thunderstorm would roll through. It was during these moments that he would be glued to the window in awe of the lightning.
Fast forward to the end of sixth grade when Brandon moved to Hugo, Minnesota. One warm spring day, May 25, 2008, an EF3 tornado ripped through his neighborhood. It destroyed houses just down the street and killed a young boy. That was the day he knew he wanted to pursue meteorology in hopes of understanding our powerful atmosphere and keeping people safe. This was the same storm system that produced an EF5 tornado in Parkersburg, IA.
Brandon attended Iowa State University and was active in the school’s weather television show, “Cy’s Eyes on the Skies”. He was elected and served as the show’s producer in his junior and senior year and interned at KMSP–TV in the Twin Cities.
Brandon has a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology and has served as weekend meteorologist at KIMT-TV in Mason City, IA.
Brandon is excited to bring his experience of Iowa forecasting and knowledge of Midwest weather to eastern Iowa.
Brandon is married to his high school sweetheart and is a proud father to his son Harrison.
In his free time Brandon likes to pamper his dogs Keela and Doug and rabbit Thunder, storm chase, ski, spend time outdoors, and cheer on the Iowa State Cyclones. His second biggest passion next to the weather is cheering on the Minnesota Vikings. Skol!
