2 injured in boating accidents on Coralville reservoir

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office responded to two boating accidents on the Coralville reservoir Sunday evening. 

Deputies were called to the first accident around 5:50 p.m. at the Mehaffey Boat Ramp, 2200 Mehaffey Bridge Rd Ne, for a report of a 22-year-old female who was injured by a boat propeller. Police say she fell into the path of a boat as it was backing up and was struck by the propeller. She was taken to the University of Iowa Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The Solon Fire Department and Johnson County Ambulance Service responded to this incident. 

The second accident was reported at 9:57 p.m. at the Coralville Lake Marina, 2869 Prairie Du Chien Rd Ne., where a person was struck by a boat. Deputies say the boat struck the 18-year-old female after she fell into the water. She sustained serious injuries and was taken to The University of Iowa Hospital. The Army Corps of Engineers, Solon Fire Department and Johnson County Ambulance Service responded to this incident, which is still under investigation.
